No worries my little American friends, this barista still lives! I've been busy doing a lot of great things, but have been very bad at letting you know what these things are. As a consequence, this will be a blog so full of pictures and greatness, your mind might just explode.
First days in Salzburg:
Nora, coolest baby ever.
Creepy dude with creepy puppet in the Dom platz. He just made the puppet "look" at people and wanted money for it?
This ride went much faster than you thought. I am totally screaming in this picture.
Nora is brilliant. She can read for sure.
I met up with some more family. Hey Roland! (And Barbara's momma).
I finally got a guitar! Already writing some new stuff.
Johan came. He bought lederhosen, so did Joy. They're looking good.
Me and my boys.
Beautiful Salzburg sunset.
Nighttime view from the Mönchsberg
Cute little jazz group playing in the streets at night.
Yup, this is indeed Mozart's birthhouse
and onto Oktoberfest!
(check out the little piggie roasting on a spit at this beer tent hehe)
Our first stop
Inside the Hofbrau tent. Still pretty early so thankfully not that full yet.
Oma, your krapfen are better.
An Australian couple we met
The beer is all gone D: must go to another tent! :)
Nothing is more German than a dirndl with Chucks haha
Germans are obsessed with rides that have Hell as a theme.
And Westerns.
And who knew nothing is more German than Beyonce?
Hacker-Pschorr tent. More yummy beer.
They have Caprisun in Germany!
This is an American mom and daughter duo. Turns out they know a school friend of mine. Crazy!
Johan fought the train and the train won. This is after just cleaning up the blood from his accident hitting the steps of the train.
At Oktoberfest, we met up with Johan's friend Miriam. We then drove back to her house which is in a tiny town of about 400 people. One church, one restaurant. That's it. We traveled to the ruins of a nearby castle.
Miriam and Johan
Someone made a rock picture on the side of the hill!
Then we made friends with horsies
He liked me.
And back to Salzburg.
This is the view from my room. Nice, eh? Everything is being renovated it seems.
This is my roommate Anna. She's super nice. We're gonna get along just great.
Our room.
Every night a group of us have made dinner and dessert. Cheaper, and so much more fun.
Spaghetti. I made garlic bread.
We soaked butter cookies in amaretto and milk and made...
Ice cream sandwiches!
I also made parsley mashed potatoes
We made schnitzel!
I went on the Sound of Music tour
This was our guide Toni. He came from Spain.
THE gazebo. We are 16 going on 22
This Schloss was used for some of the Von Trapp mansion shots
on the way we stopped at this slide ride thing. We got pulled backwards up the mountain and then basically luged down in a chute. Super fun/kind of scary.
Also on the tour
Check out the parasail-er. I squished him.
This is the church Maria and the Captain get married at
In the church
Check out this scary baby/angel pic I took.
Then we had weißwurst and sauerkraut
Really odd Austrian ad warning against leaving dog poop.
The little angels crowning Mary are actually an illusion created by the Dom some ways behind the statue.
Joy, Barbara and Sandi took Johan and I up to the Festung (biggest fortress) for a flashlight tour.
We're starting to get snow in the mountains...
This must be the torture chamber...
This was our guide Stefan. He had no teeth and was almost impossible to understand. He had an extremely strong Austrian dialect. Greatttttt.
Torture implements. In the prison chamber, they would lower people into this hole where they would receive food and water only once a day. The prisoners would have to stay for anywhere from 1 to 5 years. Most people died.
Nightime from the Festung
The Salzburger Bull (organ). This organ played to let people know it was time to get up, go to church twice a day, eat, stop working and go to bed. If you didn't go to church, soldiers would come and put you in a wooden thing in the square for 2 weeks to let everyone know you skipped.
Hopefully I will not be this bad about blogging again!

Wow!!! Oktoberfest! You're so lucky! The food's great over there and so are the people. I miss it so much. Beautiful pictures!!! Have fun! Keep posting pictures so I can live through your trip while I'm sitting here doing boring homework! Miss you here!
ReplyDeleteCatholic humor...
ReplyDeleteHi Kim,
ReplyDeleteI love all the pictures and comments. I have to show the kids the dog poop one. We are dog sitting this weekend and I know they'll get a good laugh. I wish when I went to Europe after college blogging was around. I still have my travel journal but the instant (or delayed) blog is outstanding. Phil is going to want a full Oktoberfest report... I still have my mugs from HB.
