It's the last month that I am in Europe. Obviously I needed to plan a REALLY last minute trip. Hmm. Where to go? Tickets to Barcelona are cheap for tomorrow...Barcelona it is!
I was pretty brave when it came to trying food, which my family will know is a rare, rare thing, indeed.
Look Ma, I ate my veggies!
Tasty Spanish wine (this is my friend Lisa)
That is a squid. Lookit his lil leggies.
My shrimp has eyes...
My first "real" Spanish paella (no offense Kaitlyn!)
This was some sort of toffee cake with caramel sauce. To DIE for.
This is a monument to Cristobal Columbo aka Christopher Columbus. It points to where his boat landed after returning from "discovering" the West Indies.
Barcelona is on the Mediterranean Sea. It was nice and warm. NO JACKETS!
Hey light show. There was supposed to be a water fountain display to go with. We waited for an hour.
Architecture by Gaudi. He will figure prominently in this post.
Cool building
Moorish (Islamic) influence on Spain
One of the many cool buildings I encountered while being lost. Again. We did a LOT of walking.
Finally found the Parc Guell!
Gosh, it's like I'm in another country...oh wait, I was.
Had to get a cute kid picture.
And what do you know... Another cute kid!
These are more Gaudi buildings. He has a very distinctive, playful modern style.
Flowers in winter!
Rawr. I'm a dragon.
Gaudi's stuff looks kind of like a gingerbread house.
One of the best "statue" people I've seen.
La Sagrada Familia. This is a church designed by, you guessed it, Gaudi. It has been under construction since 1882. Crazy!
Towers that reach to the heavens...
The interior is supposed to remind one of looking up into the trees. It's beautiful.
Trees!
Light and color plays a very important part in the design of the cathedral.
Cool giant clam shell holy water whatsits.
The Facades of the cathedral are all very different and very ornate.
Our Virgin Lady of the Rosary Chapel
View from the spire.
View of the city
Another view of the city from the spire (Is that a giant pickle?)
And then back down the stairs we go.
Tree of Life
Street Performers!
And going back home to Austria. Good ol' Alps.
Expect one more blog before I go. I can't believe it's almost time to go home!
